The JJ Electronic EL84 is a solidly built EL84 / 6BQ5 with excellent tonal qualities. JJ’s rugged construction of this tube offers high reliability without any compromise to the sound. This tube has solid lows with warm bright mids and shimmery highs. When saturated the harmonics are rich and dynamic. The JJ EL84 nails the classic sound of this tube. This tube can replace any EL84 or 6BQ5 tube.

A blue glow on the surface of the glass, mica, or metal is fine. A blue or violet cloud within the tube structure is bad. An orange glow from the filament or cathode in the middle of the tube is normal and can vary from very bright to very dim depending on how it is covered from view by the surrounding structures. A red or orange glow on the surface of the plate is bad and is referred to as "red-plating." This is caused by setting the bias of the tube too hot. If the tube was bad you would hear it.

If you want to use EL84's with your amp you will need to purchase the "YJS" or "YJShort" Yellow Jackets. These are pin converters that allow you to safely use EL84's in your amp.

Towards the end of the checkout process there will be a notes section where you will want to state, "please match as middle numbers." This range is compatible with all Mesa amps.

The Epiphone valve Jr calls for one EL84 and one 12AX7. In fact, we carry a tube set for your amp. Do a search for SET-EPIPHONE-002.

The Blues Junior comes stock with a pair of EL84's and these would be an excellent choice for your amp.

Yes, the 6BQ5 is the American name for these tubes. As they were commonly used in European amps, the European name EL84 has become the more commonly used term.

That amp appears to use power tubes with an octal base, so no, this is not compatible with that amp without an adapter.

Great tubes. They do sound different than the Chinese tubes they replaced in my AC30C2. To clarify, they sound different but not better or worse. The sound is less bright in the middle. I don't know how that translates to other Amps and Speakers but you will need to relearn your Knob positions if you have a specific sound you try to repeat. I would buy them again.

I put this in my 50 year old Harmony 410A amplifier. This was a drop in replacement for the tube that was originally in the amp. Now my first amplifier from childhood that ended back in my hands after many many years is functioning perfectly.
