Vacuum Tube - 6L6WGC, Tube Amp Doctor

Starting at: $24.50
In stock

GE-Style 6L6GC with a short bottle and black plate.

The Classic Sound of the 1950s and 60s - Excellent Tone, Maximum Lifetime!

The perfect choice for vintage tweed and blackface amps such as the 1960 Bassman, Twin, Showman or Super Reverb. The complex midrange and sweet heights are a class of its own. The TAD 6L6WGC-STR is our recommendation for classic tone with warm cleans and rich, sweet mids when pushed. Great for fat jazz or blues tones.

The TAD 6L6WGC-STR is a remake of the small bottle GE6L6GC and has the same warm lower midrange and silky top end as the classic GE versions of the 1950s and 60s. Like the historic RCA 5881, this tube features exclusive blackplate anodes and a side getter. The TAD 6L6GC-STR and the TAD 6L6WGC-STR have our exclusive black-plate desings, gold grid wire, double getter construction, no-noise filaments and 1.2mm thick heavy duty glass. This tube is only 80mm high (without pins) and can replace 5881 or 6L6WGB tubes.

This tube could be used in the Blues Deluxe reissue though if you have any concerns you can reference the spec sheet above for ratings etc. This can replace a 6L6GC though there may be a need for bias adjustments.

Yes, we would need the PC and TC from your tube and we can sell you one that will match it. If you place your order online, simply put the PC and TC in the notes section of your order.

This 6L6WGC-STR (GE) is slightly smoother than TAD 6L6GC with reduced bite and brightness. The 6L6GC (RCA) has a lot of grit when overdriven and is bright, focused and chimey.

The Electro-Harmonix 6L6 has a nice tight response. Most low powered Fender amps have the tendency to get fuzzy in the low end. With that in mind, a tube swap will not change the inherent design of the circuit but may help a bit.

Fantastic power tubes! Gave my clean Dumble/Two-Rock a percussive feel to it and a little more personality. Packs a wee bit more punch in the mids compared to the JJ's it was replacing.
