Vacuum Tube - 5879, Pentode, Sharp Cut-Off
New-Old-Stock (NOS) tube.
The 5879 is a sharp-cutoff pentode of the 9-pin miniature type intended for use as an audio amplifier in applications requiring reduced microphonics, leakage noise, and hum. It is especially useful in the input stages of medium-gain public address systems, home sound recorders, and general-purpose audio systems.

Product Reviews
Added a second JAN Philips NOS tube to channel 2 of my amp. Much better clarity than the previous Tung-Sol model probably due to both channels, which are interactive, having tubes of similar gain and output..
Two different branded NOS tubes were received in my package, one labelled Tung-Sol and the other Philips ECG USA. The Tung-Sol looks identical to an original RCA 5879 down to the "5879" stencilling so is no doubt a re-branded tube but the Philips is clearly different with significantly higher output. Used in the preamp sockets of a 1950's Gibson amp this is not necessarily a bad thing as different signal strengths and tones can be obtained on each of the amp's two channels.
