Would this be a good tube for a Marshall VS8040? It was made in 1994 still has the original tube. Thanks!
Asked by Anonymous on December 11th, 2018.
Tube selection is highly subjective and although some would consider this a great tube for that amp, other may not feel that to be true. We suggest referring to our 12AX7 comparison of current made tubes: https://www.amplifiedparts.com/tech-corner/12ax7-comparison-current-made-tubes
Ok, yes i understand there are a lot of different opinions out there. I am not quite sure which to select from the comparison chart because the valve state amp is not a full tube amp. I assume it will not make as big of a difference changing out a tube on the valve state. I just want to buy a new tube for it a looking for the best "Marshall" tone i can get. If you recommend a tube for me I will not be disappointed. I really am new to the "tube" world. Thanks
It may possibly make even more of a difference in your amp, as it is the only tube in the amp. The only true way to find out which tube you like the best is to try different ones out. People tend to really like this tube in Marshall amps, so this may not be a bad place to start.

Would this work well in a Crate GT200D?

This would be a great choice if you wanted to add some British flavor to your amp.

Can I get these with the triodes matched?
Asked by Anonymous on May 18th, 2017.
These are not offered with matched triodes and this is an option we do not offer. On the other hand, the Genalex Gold Lion and Tube Amp Doctor (TAD) 12AX7's are balanced at the factory.

Will this give me better High Gain, than JJ EC803s on my Micro Terror?
Asked by Anonymous on August 19th, 2018.
According to both the "12AX7 Comparison of Current Made Tubes" chart and the product review above, these shine in high gain applications. Keep in mind, tube tone is subjective and can not guarantee you will have the same experience.

Product Reviews
I have compared numerous 12AX7's in my Kern bass preamp, including some pricey NOS tubes, and these Mullard reissues are my favorite by far - very musical and warm, with a sweet top end and bass that is nice and round but not overly so. I will be buying more for sure!
Such a great quality tube. I combined this with a Tung Sol 12AX7 and it made my amp feel so much more alive.
So far i haven't tried them i put in the 12ax7 tubes they fit fine but the power tubes would not fit past the metal hole in the body because Marshall made the hole so tight that there is really no wiggle room. I have a Marshall jcm2000 dsl 401 super lead combo. ordering another set of power tubes and returning these hope i have better luck this time. Tom
I put these into the V1 spot on both channels of my Custom Deluxe Reverb. I play jazz mostly, so the sound I want is quite specific. With the Mullard Reissue 12AX7/ECC83 I get very smooth response across the frequencies. Bass notes became much more articulate with greatly reduced feedback from my hollow body Joe Pass guitar. The deep, evocative tones jazz guys love is there in spades. Mid frequencies are expressive with harmonics that can get lost with flat wound strings. The treble register is alive and balanced. I had a Mullard CV4004 in the Normal channel previously but I now prefer the Reissue 12AX7. But perhaps this tube shines best in the Custom channel where the tone is just inspiring. Don't get me wrong, this isn't the only thing I've done to achieve great tone. Gold Lion 6V6s and a hemp cone speaker help too. But if you're as particular about your tone as me, give these Mullard Reissues a spin. A great price for a really great tube.
Smooth and creamy compared to the JJ tube. Great sounding cleans
Nice added touch in British made amps.
Nice smooth breakup to these tubes. Great for all the grit you could want!
ditto on the Mullards
Bought these mullard preamp tubes through amplified parts. I really like this company they have all original stuff. Just recovered a marshall 1960a cabinet, and they had all oem stuff from marshall including the correct marshall tolex. I absolutely will buy from them again. The tubes showed up in perfect shape and on time. By they way the tube work great. No more noise.
I just put a set of the T-12AX7-MUL tubes in my Peavey 5150. I had a set of JJ tubes in it.
The Mullard Reissue 12AX7's ROCK!!!!!!!!!!
They blow any other tube I've ever used in my 5150. I'm going to install a set of these in my back-up
5150. I was able to take the preamp gain to 5.5 with less hiss than the JJ'S at about 4.7 and it sounded as if i had my MXR Micro Amp on!
I would highly recommend these tubes for anyone that is playing metal that does'nt want to rely on a distortion or OD pedal for killer crunch on your rythm channel.
