Unlike the common steel components, brass string posts and internal washers improve vibration transmission, resulting in a sound that is similar to the original vintage tuning machines. The Kluson Contemporary Series 19:1 ratio locking tuning machine uses the more desireable rear knob locking system and is designed for usage on contemporary guitars. This design requires an individual mounting hole location offset at approximately 7 O'clock or 4 O'clock depending on left or right handed application (bass or treble side). Uses the common modern 25/64 in. (10mm) peghole with a hex head type screw-in bushing and single mounting screw. Machine heads without a sealed gear are criticized for not having the same smooth performance, efficiency and durability that sealed gear tuners have. The SD series solves these problems by combining "Rock-solid" technology and the post collar or: "Self-Center Guide", found on enclosed gears in the base plate of the gear allowing the post to perfectly align itself with the bushing which attaches the gear to the headstock. The SD series uses a torque balancer to ensure steady rotation of the tuner button giving high quality sound performance as well as great functionality.
