Switch - 3-Way lever for Telecaster
Oak 3 way lever switch for Tele® Standard U.S. size. Fits ~\frac{1}{16}~" x 1-~\frac{1}{16}~" slot.1-⅝" center to center screw spacing. 1-⅜" cavity depth.
The importance of the “right” feel required by guitarists has resulted in a continually designed and developed lever switch, providing a superior product. Will this switch fit a japan-made tele?

It will fit any situation where a 1 3/8" screw spacing is required. I would measure the screw spacing on your tele and compare it to the specs here.

Does the shaft extend perpendicular to the switch?

Yes, as you would expect on a typical switch, the shaft is perpendicular to the switch.
