Speakers & Components
Speakers. The last opportunity to modify your tone. Unlike hi-fi speakers which attempt to create sounds that are true to the musical source fed them, guitar speakers impart their own tone. Your amp/cabinet pretty much determines three things about what speaker to select; speaker size, impedance and power rating. (See our tech corner article on Speaker Impedance, Power Handling and Wiring). But the tone is up to you! Speaker replacement is probably the easiest mod you can perform.
Speaker - Jensen® Jets, 10", Tornado Classic, 100W
Like its 12” version, the Tornado 10 is remarkably versatile, with evenly balanced tone, excellent articulation, and a detailed, dynamic response with a hint of a very musical, sweet dynamic compression. The powerful Neodymium magnet and the 2” voice coil allow for 100W of power handling in a featherlight weight of just 1.7kgs (3.75lbs)
Speaker - Jensen® Jets, 10", Blackbird, 100W
The Blackbird 10 offers the same power handling of its 12” sibling and proves to have the same tonal approach. Its exceptional detail and treble resolution, and powerful basses make the Blackbird 10 an excellent choice for the more discerning players looking for the unique sonic signature of 2x10 and 4x10 configuration and high-end super compact 1x10 combo amps.
Speaker - Celestion, 10", Vintage G10, 60W
A worthy successor to the Vintage 10, the G10 Vintage is a 10" speaker with bags of attitude. Using powerful ceramic magnets and the same voice coil design as the Vintage 30, the G10 packs an impressive punch with its 60W power handling. With the fast response of a 10" but with the strong and creamy vocal tones of a 12", the G10 is the ideal choice to add depth to hollow-sounding amps, or for players who want to get humbucker-type girth from single-coils. Can be used singly to add vocal warmth to small valve combos, or in quartets for a weightier but still lively attack.
