What does the center shield do?

The center porting is actually a convenience terminal for mounting components such as resistors.
Product Reviews
Like the ceramic sockets - and these were the only ones that I could find with a conventional orientation relative to the mounting holes. For some reason, all of the others that saw were rotated about 45 degrees (from "normal"). I haven't completed the build that I purchased these for, so don't know about actual performance - but happy to find them.
