Capacitors

Capacitors are passive devices that are used in almost all electrical circuits for rectification, coupling and tuning. Also known as condensers, a capacitor is simply two electrical conductors separated by an insulating layer called a dielectric. The conductors are usually thin layers of aluminum foil, while the dielectric can be made up of many materials including paper, mylar, polypropylene, ceramic, mica, and even air. Electrolytic capacitors have a dielectric of aluminum oxide which is formed through the application of voltage after the capacitor is assembled. Characteristics of different capacitors are determined by not only the material used for the conductors and dielectric, but also by the thickness and physical spacing of the components.

C-ZYD68-200 Capacitor - SoZo, 200V, .68 µF, NexGen Yellow Mustard Vintage
SoZo's Yellow Mustard line of polyester film tube amp capacitors have been thoroughly tested by LA’s best tube amp builders. They are handmade to exact vintage specs, and beat everything available, even in high gain situations.
After years of painstaking research and development, in 2003 SoZo Amplification began manufacturing the SoZo Mustard Cap™ capacitors, which quickly caught on among discriminating musicians and amp designers. Now, hundreds of thousands of capacitors later, SoZo has engineered capacitor product lines optimized for different products, including amps by Marshall™, Fender®, Vox®, HiWatt, and others, as well as professional sound gear from Neve, API, Neumann, Universal Audio, Urei, and virtually any quality gear from the 1950s on.
These caps are successful recreations of the originals and are superbly built and excellent-sounding caps. When one considers the audio signal passes through as many as ten capacitors before exiting the amplifier, you can see how these components play an extremely large role in the tone of the amplifier.
