9 pin miniature preamp tube (Amplification Factor = 100). This Russian tube has strong lows and bright highs. Its lows demand attention when playing full bar chords. In overdrive, it offers a lot of crunchy fizz. For more information about our 12AX7 tubes, see our tech corner article on 12AX7s.

Just installed one of these in my Marshall VS 65 watt combo amp. A longtime friend and fellow guitar player (both of us have been playing for over, well let's say 30 years :) ) and I first played a variety of my guitars through the Marshall with its original (and admittedly aged) tube, using a variety of solid and semi-hollow body guitars, some with humbucker pickups and some with single coils. Then we replaced the tube with this Sovtek 12AX7 and repeated with the same guitars. The Sovtek just overall sounded better on both clean and overdriven channels with all of the guitars tested. It doesn't make the Marshall a different amp, just a better sounding version of itself (and it wasn't bad to start with!). Well worth the money and modest effort to make this change!
