Product Reviews
The perfect decay length. I've tried the short decay short three spring MOD tank (8AB1A1B), as well as their "medium" decay long three spring tank (9AB2A1B), and out of the three this one is by far the best. Longer decay times wash out the guitar and make it indistinct, because the reverb trails don't die out in between notes. The three spring tanks have a more "lush" sound, but the two spring is much splashier and gives the classic Fender spring reverb sound that I was going for.
Overall an excellent tank, great character, responsive, splashy, and full sounding.
I wound up buying 2 of these because the short decay were apparently used in the vintage Fender combos and not the long decay. Additionally the tank I had was emitting a lot of noise/hum even after rotating it 180 degrees - a cheap knockoff!
The new tanks were so incredibly free of hum in my home built Deluxe Reverb and Princeton Reverb clones that I was stunned almost like replacing a noisy V1 12ax7 with a gold pin Tungsol. The short decay units definitely had more high end sparkle and I loved the feel of the attack. The reverb in these units sound incredible and are nicely made. I bought their classy reverb tank covers. Yes I used the traditional braided shield wiring to connect to the reverb tank it looks nice and minimizes noise. I would recommend these tanks to anyone doing a replacement.
Fantastic reverb tank. Sounds great.
