I'm using a quad of these in one of my Peavey ValveKing's VK100 heads. It originally had Ruby's in it and they were ok. When I switched over, there wasn't a volume change as much as a spatial / dimensional change. All things being equal with the preamp tubes, these tall chinese, as I call them, made the ValveKing tone brighter than the Ruby's and also added more dimensionality to the sound. It was like slightly turning up the treble and presence a bit, but I never changed the knobs at all. To describe it in another way, the lead notes and chords on the crunch channel jumped out more, were more defined and audible. Something a kin to a 3D type effect or if you added a BBE Sonic Stomp. - I actually ordered the wrong tubes. My amp tech suggested for the ValveKing since it has a fixed bias to get a hot set of the short chinese tubes. (you have to request a hot set or you'll get mediums) But I'm quite happy with these. That still leaves my other ValveKing head with a mismatched set of GrooveTubes to be replaced. So I"ll get the short chinese tubes and I'm sure they'll work out as well or even better than the tall chinese tubes.
