The JJ ECC803 is a long-plate version of the standard 12AX7. The longer plates give the tube higher gain. It has a rich and full tone with creamy distortion that does well in any 12AX7 application.

Yes this is an awsome 12ax7. Really the only "old school" preamp amp tube being made .Look at the build- its a tesla 12AX7.I have a theory about buying tubes. If cost is your main concern, buy Chinese tubes. If you want (imho) the best sounding tubes being made today,and will pay the high cost, buy Russian, (either SED or the various American Company - New Sensor Brands. If you want new made old school tubes, Buy JJ's. JJ basically picked up where Tesla left off. The JJ ECC803, EL34 and 6L6GC are the exact same designs Tesla was making when they shut down.

This is my favorite preamp tube. Imagine if a NOS RCA 12ax7 and a Telefunken Smooth plate made love. This would be that love child. Totally smooth and rich sweet tone. Gain is full and robust but not overpowering. Highs are sweet and super dynamic, mids are strong, lows are deep and bassy. Like I said - Mother Of All 12ax7s!
