I own a drip-edge '69 Fender
I own a drip-edge '69 Fender Princeton Reverb combo. I've had it about 8-9 years. I had it serviced by some "tech" shortly after I got it and it seemed ok as far as I could tell. Then I started learning how to service my own amps and started to realise maybe all was not so good. The main filter cap can had been replaced with a so-called Mallory "assembled in Mexico" cap can, and the bypass caps were a combination of some small Phillips/Ducati caps. I ordered a replacement cap can and bypass caps from another supplier. The bypass caps were fantastic. The main filter cap can would have meant a chassis modification that I was not prepared to do on a vintage amp. Then I discovered Amplified Parts website advertising replacement caps US made with the original Mallory equipment. I got my exact replacement can yesterday and installed it immediately. This amp (which has a replacement baffle board to run a Celestion Vintage 30, 12 inch speaker), now sounds absolutely unbelievable with my American Standard Strat ( Callaham Trem block fitted). Clear as a bell with gorgeous harmonics and wonderful note definition. I doubt this amp sounded better when it was new.
