Product Reviews
Very Cool Overdrive. Very easy build. The instructions are clear and detailed. All in all, you get a very nice end product for the $!
I bought the persuader and assembled it one Sunday afternoon. A very cool tube overdrive. Weird about the Chinese 12AX7 fitting into the tube socket - mine fit in without problem.
The Chinese tube supplied doesn't fit into the socket..too big of a base. No problem..have many other 12A_7's to roll. First off...this isn't a distortion box....I'd call it a volume boost..which it does just fine, without killing the orig input tone. I'd like to modify to overdrive the tube so gain pot really works...any suggestions? I bought the power supply wall wart and it works perfectly.
Correcting my previous review, I'm giving this pedal an excellent rating instead. I've added a tone knob with 10nf and 250k pot in series to ground before the volume knob. The pedal is a very balance pedal with the tone control. I wanted more boost therefore I've change the 33k resistor to 68k like the first stage. However this added boost makes the 5751 tube sound muddy/unclear. Went back to the 12AX7 and everything just sound right and perfect with added boost.
I wanted a DIY tube overdrive and one that I can mod to my taste of sound. This is a good sounding tube overdrive and took me an hour or 2 to wire it up. By default it's bassy and muddy, so much that I wonder if it's design for bass guitar instead. I've change the value of the capacitors to 47nf input, 47nf between the tube pins and 1uf for output. Everything is perfect with a 5751 tube instead of 12AX7. I missed having a tone knob and going at that soon. A nice project and good sounding tube overdrive, try it and you won't regret.
Fun build. The instructions don't always follow the most logical layout in terms of wiring (for example you may have to go back and wire under other soldered connections). The background noise is VERY low for the amount of output available. At unity output with the pre-gain cranked this pedal is fuzzy, but the magic in this pedal is using it's very high volume output to push your preamp tubes in addition to the internal gain. Worth the price and very touch responsive. More of a tube based mild-fuzz/boost than an overdrive. I have almost no soldering experience, and mine turned out great.
Great pedal and Cool color! It makes a handy tube tester besides a real tube overdrive, you can get different gains and tones with an assortment of various tubes. Excellent and easy to follow instuctions with layout pictures, and You made it Yourself!
Very fun. Took me 5 hours to assemble, I've got almost no experience on the solder iron. its got the good fuzz.
This is SWEET! I also bought 5 other 12AX7's and each one gives it a different tone, it comes with an unbranded tube which I think is Chinese I tried the Tung Sol, The JJ and the E-H all made sound different this thing is cool!
I really wanted a tube overdrive and this worked out great! It took me four hours, but it was well worth it, and the best part - is that I BUILT IT MYSELF!
